History

It all began in 2018. Kento and Rika Kitayama started a takeout coffee stand in the corner of an office building in Vancouver's DTES, serving drinks out of a window outside, selling around 20 cups a day in those early days.

Simplicity was the philosophy.

Delicious espresso and matcha drinks, with thoughtful customer service was first priority. The unique setup of a coffee window attracted a variety of curious locals who became regulars. Many of them represent a kaleidoscope of unique personalities who supported this budding coffee shop.

The two took a break in the fall of 2021 to take care of their newborn daughter.

In spring of 2022, the coffee stand was rebirthed as OIDÉ COFFEE.
A temporary home was made in a shared space in East Vancouver, with staff being employed for the first time.
Events were held with many coffee specialists, who started recognizing this small but special coffee shop.

In the fall of 2023 OIDÉ COFFEE found its home in the Waterfall Building in Kitsilano. From there, the business began to grow - welcoming new team members, introducing pourovers to the menu, and expanding its selection of retail coffee and brewing tools.

By the fall of 2025, due to the rising cost of matcha, matcha offerings were discontinued, allowing OIDÉ COFFEE to focus fully on coffee.

At the end of 2025, OIDÉ COFFEE launched its online shop, continuing to share its coffee beyond the cafe, alongside a curated selection of tools, tableware, and books.

In the summer of 2026, we will open its second location, “OIDÉ LABO” in Mount Pleasant. As a major step in our journey, we will begin roasting and baking in-house. The space will function as a takeout coffee shop, roastery, and baking facility, while also serving as a place for tasting, education, and coffee excellence.
